The migraine headache is a type of headache; it is a vascular headache as compared to the more common “tension headache”. A migraine includes a set of symptoms that usually appear prior to the onset of the migraine. This set of pre-migraine symptoms can include seeing spots, seeing lines that are straight or wavy, seeing colors, having swelling, redness, tearing, muscle contractions, irritability, depression, numbness, constipation or diarrhea and sometimes a feeling of exhilaration prior to the migraine hitting.
As these warning symptoms seem to settle down the migraine comes rolling in at full speed. It can range from minor discomfort to crippling agony and may last from minutes to days. A few of the more common descriptions of the headaches are; the pain occurs on one side of the head or behind one eye, nausea and vomiting can accompany it, throbbing can also occur that leads to the migraine and feelings of dizziness or imbalance when moving the head.
The migraine is different than the tension headache because tension headaches usually involve the whole head; also migraines affect women more than men. Migraines can run in families which might be caused by a structural component such as posture that could lead to the migraine syndrome; but no migraine gene has been found yet.
The Chiropractic approach to migraines is a drugless, natural treatment.
Chiropractors are the only health care professionals who are trained to analyze and correct the misalignments of your spine which we call VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATIONS or the VERTEBRAL SUBLUATION COMPLEX. Chiropractic is a method of removing the pressures on your spine by correcting the spinal misalignments and allowing the body to heal itself. Chiropractors do not treat the migraine but correct the possible cause of the migraine which has led to millions of people getting relief from all forms of headaches including migraines. By correcting the vertebral misalignments, your body is better able to heal itself and get control of the migraine syndrome.
It was once believed that the spine had no relationship to headaches; however this is no longer the case. Now there is a special name for headaches that originate from the neck. They are called “CERICOGENIC HEADACHES”. So whether one has common or migraine type headache, there is a possible way to control them and possibly remove them completely, this being Chiropractic Adjustive Care.
